Thank you so much for this tutorial! <3 How do you get your lines to be so smooth though? I recently bought a wacom tablet (it's my first time using a tablet)  and my lines look really messy. v.v

How much is Photoshop Elements 3.0? Cuz as you can tell from my line-art right now, I REALLY need it. :(

I'm not sure how much it is now or if you can even find it. That's a really old version of it but, the latest version is Photoshop Elements 9 which is about $76.99 on Amazon.

it's a great tutorial in the sense that you tell which brushes you choose and give tips on the difference between making fast strokes and Smaller ones. For novices like me it's great to hear tips like that because even though for some people they seem trivial. To others it's a blessing to know them because they're hard to invent by yourself. thank you for this^^

Thank you for the tutorial!
In step 3, how come your brushes looks like pen marks? I select the hard round brush and it's...round. I think that makes a difference in the sketch?

It's because I have a tablet plugged in which adds pressure sensitivity.

If you're using a mouse you won't get that. If you are using a tablet but aren't getting pressure sensitivity, then you might need to install a driver or something for the tablet you have.

Yes, I have a tablet, but the pressure sensitivity isn't working...at least not in Photoshop. But you're right, I probably have to install something that I forgot to. xD Thanks so much!~

The game that is referred to in your signature made me lose the game D:<

There's a game that the band students (yes, I said band) in my town play and I don't know if it's something someone here made up or if it's a nationwide thing. It's only known name is "the game" and everytime you think of it you have to say, "I lost the game" so everyone around you will lose the game when they think of that moment. At least one person says "I lost the game" during band and at every football game. Then you have 30 minutes to forget about the game and it restarts.

I'm trying to get the same brush as you, but I cannot make it the way it looks on yours. Hard round, 5 px. It still doesn't look like yours, mine is all round and doesn't strech out like yours.

Could this be because I don't have a tablet? :(

Yep, that's exactly it. You have to have a tablet plugged in for it to do that, sadly. : /

Did your tablet come with a disc? If you install that it should make the tablet work right. If you don't have a disc/can't find it, go to the official website for that tablet and see if they have a "driver" for that tablet you can download from there to get it to work right.

I think it depends on the person using it really. But I do use a 4x5 one and this one works just fine for me.

You should have it, just hold your mouse over each brush and see what the name is. Though, it is possible they might have changed the name. Still, the one I used is just your basic brush in it. The tablet is what makes it point at the ends. If you don't have a tablet it won't be pointed, just round.

You have to be kind of "quick" with your strokes. If you go really slow making a line it will be kind of bumpy looking.

I have never actually MADE a brush in photoshop. I just use the brushes that are already in there. I've never used photoshop 7 either so, I'm not sure how different it is from photoshop elements 3. :(

Thanks a lot for this tutorial -- because, all I've seen are those fancy CS2-4 photoshop tutorials, and I think I HAVE to use the tools they have in those programs, or my line art won't be great,
But, I've got Elements 3.0 too, so thanks for putting this up! :D

Very helpful, thanks. What size do you usually have ur image when working on it? Like to you make it huge and then scale it down when finished?

Hmm, you can do the same thing with a mouse. You won't get the pressure effects though, like the pointed lines, instead they'll be round on the ends.

*sigh* yeah... I did some experimenting after seeing your tutorial and I gotta say, it's the best attempt I've made so far. Your tutorial is a GREAT help. Using the mouse is a big bummer though...
